So I made a trip up to my local Target which has been my go-to spot for a good Hot Wheels haul, and I was disappointed. Usually they have good/real cars but all they had on the racks was fake/crazy stuff that I'm not interested in. So I walk to the end of the aisle and there's this huge bin (pictured above) full of them, and I'm getting excited thinking "Finally! I might've just found the elusive Delorean, LaFerrari, and/or Porsche 918!" but no, just more fake cars and about a million of everything it got a few months ago :(
I didn't see every single car in the bin but I rummaged through it for about 15 minutes, probably while being judged very harshly by ~20 people, and I figured that anything that I hadn't seen was probably the same as everything else I saw in the bin.
So maybe if I find time I'll take a trip over to the big Wal Mart close by and see if I can have any better luck.
Oh well...

GOD I HATE HAVING TO RUMMAGE THROUGH THAT BOX AT THE END OF THE AISLE.
But from my experience, taking out a cellphone and glaring at 6-year-olds angrily with the soul of a determined Hot Wheels hunter has helped me get through it with my reputation as a 19-year-old intact.

A local grocery store which has been a great source of Hot Wheels for me has 2 stack-outs in the entry way. Each stackout has....I dunno...4 columns and 6 rows, of cars in it. Each individual slot for cars holds like 7 carded cars. If those numbers are close...that's 168 cars per display. So yesterday I sorted through somewhere close to 320 cars in the entry of this grocery store...found six that I wanted. Probably got judged the entire time too. Don't care...I'm happy.

Yeah I took my phone out a couple times because for some reason that made me feel less weird digging around in a toy box... :P but honestly, its impossible to see everything in that box unless I dumped it out on the floor, which admittedly I really wanted to do several times.

oh man, front of the store... so EVERYONE can see you! lol
they probably put it there so little kids run to it, find one they like, have their mom tell them no, bother their mom about it the entire time they're at the store, until she finally cracks and says "OK, I'll get it!"

One time I had a cashier ask me if I was buying it for myself and I was like "yeah....." and she was like "Don't feel bad, my 30 year old brother does too."

Sometimes Target has dark days. I can usually find a couple that I want, though, between HW and Matchbox. But I went into WalMart for the first time in a year or so and OH HOLY ASS do they have a lot of cars!

This target has only one small little hanger-rack for matchbox and its usually only holding 1 or 2 cars.

One evening (like a year ago or so) my girlfriend and I went to this same store after I'd had a few beverages. I was standing by the Hot Wheels that were actually on peghooks in the aisles...sorting through them. Apparently while I was looking through, a 4 or 5 year old kid came up behind me and stood, waiting for me to move...and eventually gave up and walked away. When my girlfriend told me that I felt an inch tall...
Then she reasoned that the mother was probably glad that I was there to block the child. The mother got away cleanly and my gf ended up being the one that had to buy 3 cars for the childish 37 year old.

My local-ish taget has a bin like that and I have not found anything good in it. It looks just like it actually.
My local Wal-Mart has a huge rack of them but it is so damn overloaded that if you try to simply touch one car, about 15 come crashing down. It is impossible to search through which is why nobody touches the ones from this rack. I would take a dump-bin anyday over the overloaded pegs that reach down to the floor where you can't easily search.

There was one time that I saw all of them lined up on the shelf right on top of the box and they were sorted too, by model, and the real cars on the left, fake cars on the right. I felt like someone beat me there and had way too much time.

We have three, the total number of cars is usually about 4, and usually they are just the fantasy/original/fake/crazy whatever cars I don't care about. But on restock day, HO BOY I spend some serious cash. Serious cash to me is anything more than my lunch budget. So like $3-5...

Yeah, I should find out when restocking day is... While I was at the store I had this image in my head that they had boxes and boxes full of just what I was looking for, but in the back room where I'd never see them... which is kind of an upsetting thought, lol

honestly I wouldn't mind an overloaded rack so long as it had good cars on it. I try to just see the very bottom of the package if I can and just read the names without having to touch them and risk all of them falling down.
